On Friday 20th October 2017 our Year 7 Students gathered in St Anne’s Church in Rock Ferry together with their Form Tutors, their families and other members of staff, to celebrate Mass together to mark the beginning of their journey as members of the SJP family.
It has been a very busy period for our Year 11 pupils who are challenging themselves by taking on the Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award. Over the last fortnight we have seen over 50 pupils complete their three day practice expeditions in North Wales.
Ten Year 9 girls were invited to attend an event in collaboration with IBM to celebrate Girls in Technology in honour of Ada Lovelace Day. The day was designed to inspire Year 9 girls about the possibilities of a career in the technology industry.
Year 8 and 9 pupils were treated to a Science Show from the RAF on Thursday last week. A team came in to deliver a session on the RAF’s use of drones and new tiny super powered engines.
Many congratulations to our newly appointed Head Boy and Head Girl team. Emily Evans and Jonathan Nield and their Deputies, Sam Jackson-Twist, Joseph Owens, Isabelle Storer and Ellen Peters, have been fantastic ambassadors for the College throughout their journey at SJP.
On Friday we will welcome Alison McGovern, MP for Wirral South, to SJP to take part in our first Oracy Conference Day. Year 7A will spend the day learning about what Oracy is, and how it can be used to communicate effectively.
Monday 2nd October marked the launch of Oracy at SJP. Pupils were given an insight into the differences between exploratory talk and structured talk in their PSHE lesson and invited to join the new Speak Up!, Up for Debate and Debating Societies.
Saturday morning was the first cross country meet of the school calendar and it took place in Croxteth Park in Liverpool. A packed Year 7 race saw a competitive finish with Aidan Corr racing his way to 7th position, and Joe Whitcombe finishing 24th.
On Tuesday 26th September pupils and staff celebrated the European Day of Languages. There were plenty of opportunities to sample European delicacies including chorizo, anchovies and croissants.
Another great year for GCSE results at SJP
The school is exceptionally pleased with the performance of our students this year who have once again delivered an excellent set of results despite changes at GCSE to the new 9-1 more challenging examinations in English and Maths.
Another great year for A Level results at SJP
St John Plessington Catholic College celebrates excellent results today for A-level students with 42% of students achieving A*-B grades, 72% achieving A*-C and a 98% pass rate for all students (A*-E).
