Parent and Carer Consultation

In February 2024, the DfE published guidance for schools on prohibiting the use of mobile phones throughout the school day. The guidance was designed to assist schools in implementing suitable policies to manage the use of mobile phones in order to create an environment that is calm, safe and free from distraction to students so that they can learn and thrive.

In support of this, we will be creating a policy that further supports a mobile phone free school and wanted to consult with you on the various options open to us.

We would appreciate your views on how best to manage this and would ask that you take the time to complete the following parent survey.

1. Please can you select from the following options which one best describes how you would like school to manage the use of mobile phones:

A complete ban of mobile phones on the school premises. This would mean that all mobile phones should be left at home with parents. Please note that this would include being free of a mobile phone on the journey to and from school. Mobile phones kept by students throughout the day but in a secure pouch. This would mean the introduction of a system where students are allocated a locked pouch which is locked on arrival to school and kept with the student. This is then unlocked using an unlocking device at the end of the school day or when a student leaves for an appointment.
