I am writing to inform you that in two weeks, Friday 2nd December 2022, College will be closed to all students while we hold the Yr 8 & Yr 9 Progress Review Day.

Maths – Sparx Maths Homework launches this week
As you are aware, Hegarty Maths is changing to Sparx maths.
Over the last fortnight we have been busy introducing Sparx to every maths class within our SJP community to ensure that all pupils can login to their account.

I hope that you and your families are well. As you will be aware from the letter sent out from our Chair of Governors last week, I have been asked, in Ms Sharratt’s absence, to take on the role of interim Head of School. In addition, I would also like to welcome Mrs Wheeler, who will be acting as Executive Headteacher to offer some additional capacity and support during this period of time. We will be working together to ensure that our expectations remain high and that classrooms are a productive and enjoyable learning environment for all of our students.

I wanted to take the opportunity to give you an overview of what your child will be learning about in their Personal Development lessons this half term. Your child will have 3 lessons of Personal Development each week which are delivered by their form tutor.

SJP Year 7 ‘First Steps’ Experience
As part of your child’s induction to our College community, we are continuing with an initiative which has been extremely successful over numerous years, which we believe will help to further enhance the transition process for all our Year 7 children. It is called the Year 7 ‘First Steps’ Experience. The date of this trip will be Monday 24th – Wednesday 26th April 2023 and every Year 7 pupil is invited to attend this 3-days/2-nights educational residential trip, at the Conway Centre, North Wales. We are very fortunate to have secured a booking, as it is extremely popular with many school groups.

I write to inform you of some interim changes to our behaviour policy which will be implemented from Tuesday 1 November 2022 until further notice. As educators it is our job to ensure that all children can learn in a safe and conducive learning environment.
The time for our Mass has changed from 13.00pm to 09.30am on Friday 4th November.
Dear Families
As we come to the end of this half term, I’d like to update you on a number of important points. This half term has seen the newest members of our community settle into life at SJP. As I write, they are coming to the end of a two week retreat where they have been working alongside the Diocesan Youth Mission team, in their form groups, learning about the importance of community and how our faith can help and guide us. After half term, we will come together at St Anne’s church for our Mass of Welcome - more information to follow.
A BBC production team visited St John Plessington this month and staff from this prestigious, world-renowned organisation shared their career paths with our older year groups.
After a busy summer and start of the new term, I hope that your child has settled in well and is forming strong and lasting friendships with other students. It has been a pleasure getting to know so many of our newest students and seeing them settle into our college community quickly.
Pupils at St John Plessington have earned an international accreditation this academic year, recognising their amazing work in making their school more environmentally friendly and raising eco-awareness in fellow pupils.
