A small cohort of Year 12 students have been working with the Scholars Programme (The Brilliant Club) over the course of this year and they have been successful in completing this course. I would personally like to congratulate them on this outstanding achievement. This has been a fantastic opportunity for them that comes at a considerable expense to the school. However, this has provided each pupil with much transferable knowledge, skills and quality content to add to their personal statement and curriculum vitae.
What has each pupil achieved on The Scholars Programme?
-
The Scholars Programme has involved each pupil working closely with a PhD Tutor, who is either studying to gain a PhD or already has one. They have studied a series of small group, university-style tutorials on a ‘super-curricular’ course which explores topics they may not usually study in the school curriculum.
-
Many of these researchers currently act as lecturers to students at university level, so it has been a unique opportunity for each student to experience university-style teaching.
-
Pupils have worked towards final assignments that have challenged them to work above their current key stage.
Following the completion of the Programme, we were delighted to take all pupils to attend an official graduation event to celebrate each student's hard work on The Scholars Programme. The ‘Graduation Event’ took place at the University of Manchester and the Year 12 cohort received their certificate during the graduation and also got to explore the University Campus to experience university life.
Once again, congratulations to all the students involved. You have represented the College and yourselves “Brilliantly.”
