St John Plessington Catholic College recently held its Winter Arts Showcase 2022, a free event hosted by its drama department that celebrates students’ hard work throughout the term.

On Thursday 1st of December your child will attend a Careers Fair being held in the main hall of the school. After being unable to hold such an event for a long time, this is a fantastic opportunity for them to explore and consider opportunities available to them when they leave SJP.
The Health and Social Care department had a visit from Claire House Children’s Hospice to support their knowledge and understanding of alternative forms of communication and professional roles within the sector. This directly links to upcoming PSA assignments for Year 10 students and level 3 exams for Year
12 and 13 students.
Our Lead Eco-Ambassadors, Samuel and TIffany, attended the Youth Symposium at Chester Zoo to showcase what environmental projects have taken place at SJP so far and their plans for the next 12 months.

Maths – Sparx Maths Homework launches this week
As you are aware, Hegarty Maths is changing to Sparx maths.
Over the last fortnight we have been busy introducing Sparx to every maths class within our SJP community to ensure that all pupils can login to their account.

As you will be aware from the letter sent out from our Chair of Governors last week, I have been asked, in Ms Sharratt’s absence, to take on the role of interim Head of School. In addition, I would also like to welcome Mrs Wheeler, who will be acting as Executive Headteacher to offer some additional capacity and support during this period of time. We will be working together to ensure that our expectations remain high and that classrooms are a productive and enjoyable learning environment for all of our students.

SJP Year 7 ‘First Steps’ Experience
As part of your child’s induction to our College community, we are continuing with an initiative which has been extremely successful over numerous years, which we believe will help to further enhance the transition process for all our Year 7 children. It is called the Year 7 ‘First Steps’ Experience. The date of this trip will be Monday 24th – Wednesday 26th April 2023 and every Year 7 pupil is invited to attend this 3-days/2-nights educational residential trip, at the Conway Centre, North Wales. We are very fortunate to have secured a booking, as it is extremely popular with many school groups.
